Malls + Beaches + Traffic = Manila

'I love it there, love Philippines!'

I met this lady trainor at work, and we had a chat about my home country, the crazy traffic, and the lovely beaches. She recounted to me how her first time to be in the Philippines is one of the best travel she had. 'You're from Philippines, right?' she asked me. I answered with a jolly sounding 'Yup!'
It was almost home time for me after a hard day's work, whilst she was waiting to speak with the boss of the unit.

Lady Trainor: 'Where in the Philippines?'
Reigun: 'Well, I live in the capital, Metro Manila.'

LT: 'I have a brother living there, in Quezon City.' **She pronounced it as 'Qwuezon', I dig it.**

R: 'Oh really?! Wow, actually my mom still lives there, and spent all my life in Qwuezon City. So what does your brother do there, visiting briefly or working full-time?'

LT: He works there full time, and he's married and they have 4 lovely kids. They live in ********. (Home location with-held as per editing)

Here are the excerpts and highlights of our 'brief' conversation:

  • 'We've been there on the New Year's, and wow you guys really know how to party. It was so much fun, unlike here in England!'
  • 'We went to Boracay, oh it was lovely. I also have been to Bohol, Cebu, Palawan. It was fantastic.'
  • 'I remember on the New Year's Eve, I have never ever experienced that kind of traffic jam at all, we were stuck for hours. There was also a massive fire, we could see it from miles while we were in the car, like a burning factory. We could see ambulances and fire trucks behind us, but couldn't get in because it was just hell of a traffic.'
  • 'We went to this massive mall (Mall of Asia), and it was just unbelievable. Endless shops. We went first to SM in North I think, I thought it was already huge.'
  • 'The food there is so fantastic and lovely.'
  • 'I'd like to go back there, I miss my brother and his family. I've told my husband, but said we couldn't do it this year, sadly.'
  • 'Corregidor also was magnificent, it was awesome.'

In a short span of time, her visit may have just summarised the entire travel adventure and tour around the Philippines. It makes me miss Qwuezon City more.
