Avoid Dating Disasters! How To Look on a First Date

Dating is a minefield for just about anyone. For men and women, young and old- it’s nerve wracking for everyone. Even if you’re usually the most confident person in the room, you’re sure to notice some jitters when it comes to dating. And for good reason, on a date we want to impress. While you should always be yourself, you want to be the very best version of yourself and with that comes pressure.

One of the ways you can give your confidence a boost, and go into that first date feeling as positive as possible is by feeling good in your appearance. When you like how you look on the outside, you’re likely to be more confident and feel more positive on the inside. But what sort of things can you do to achieve this?

Hair Styling and Grooming
Even if you’re a relaxed kind of guy, it’s worth making an effort on a first date. This could mean clean shaving if that’s your kind of look, or giving your facial hair a trim with a good electric shaver. A quick once over with the ear and nose hair trimmer won’t go amiss, and you could give your monobrow a tweeze if you wanted! No need to go crazy here, but some general grooming and tidying yourself up as much as possible will create a far better impression. In terms of your hair, if a trip to the barbers is needed then swing by in the days running up to your date.

Clothes
What you wear largely depends on where you’re going to be going on your date. You don’t want to turn up to a casual bar in a suit, or somewhere fancy in trainers so it pays to make sure you scope out the place beforehand. Have a look online and check out the dress code, or just use common sense. Even if you’re going very casual for a coffee or a quick bite to eat in a cafe, you should still make an effort. Make sure your footwear are clean, and clothes are ironed and co-ordinating- even if it’s just a t-shirt and jeans.

Scent
It’s easy to go in full force with the aftershave when you want to impress, however too much fragrance will do more harm than good. You want to smell nice but keep it subtle. Again, if it’s just a daytime date then choose a lighter day fragrance. If you’re going out for the evening it could be a little heavier but be careful not to go overboard. Don’t forget your antiperspirant- first date nerves could bring you out in a sweat! And a thorough teeth cleaning with some mouthwash and perhaps a mint in your pocket for later on will keep your breath feeling fresh, if you’re lucky enough to secure a first date kiss!

Feeling confident about the way you look and presenting yourself in the best way is important. Not only will you make a good impression but you will feel great within yourself too. Anything to lessen those first date nerves a little!
