Most Ridiculous Celebrity Purchases

If there is one thing that most celebrities know how to do well, it is spend money. After all, when you have unlimited funds, it is only natural that you start to spend it on ridiculous things that you wouldn't have otherwise. In this blog post, we are going to take a look at some of the most ridiculous celebrity purchases.

Let's begin with Johnny Depp, who apparently spends more than $30,000 on wine alone per month. This wine is flown in from all over the globe for personal consumption. This information was revealed during a lawsuit between the actor and his former managers. As part of the court case, legal documents were revealed that showed Johnny Depp's extravagant spending habits. Not only does he have a very important wine allowance, but his purchases also included 70 collectible guitars, 45 luxury cars, fourteen different residences around the world, and in 18 million dollar yacht, witch, interestingly, he later sold to JK Rowling.

If you have ever watched The Hangover films, then you probably know that Mike Tyson has 3 Bengal tigers. This is not the only outrageous purchase that the former boxer has made. He also spent $2.2 million on a bathtub that was made out of 24 carat gold. It, therefore, probably does not come as much of a surprise to learn that the heavyweight filed for bankruptcy in 2003. For regular folks like you and I, a bit of overspending does not always have to resort in bankruptcy. Luckily, we can turn to the likes of same day guarantor loans to cover us until our wages come in. But for the rich and famous, when they get into debt, their debts are so massive that the only option is to file for bankruptcy, which is exactly what Mike Tyson did.

Another person who has spent a ridiculous amount of money on a bathtub is Oprah Winfrey. During an appearance on the Late Late Show with James Corden, she revealed that she has a bathtub that is carved into the shape of her body. She went as far as to lie inside of a cast model and have the bath created out of onyx and marble for her body specifically.

And, guess what, she’s not the only one to spend ridiculous amounts on a bathtub! This really must be the most popular type of celeb purchase. Tamara Ecclestone, who is the daughter of the former Formula One chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone, spent $1.5 million on a crystal bathtub. It cost so much because she needed to reinforce the floor to accommodate it.

Let’s move away from the bathroom now… A plane ticket costing $1,500 may not seem expensive on the surface, especially if you are travelling a long distance. However, the lead singer of U2, Bono, spent this amount of money on a plane ticket for his hat. Yes, you did read that correctly. When performing at a charity concert in Italy, the singer realised that he had left his favourite hat in London. Therefore, he paid insurance, taxi ride, and a plane ticket, for his hat to be sent to him immediately.

We know that it is not unusual for some people to believe in ghosts. However, Lady Gaga went one step further and spent $50,000 on a ghostbuster. Yes, back in 2010, she bought an Electromagnetic Field Reader so that she could keep the ghosts at bay while on tour.

Next, we have socialite Paris HIlton and her crazy purchases! Most people would not be able to afford to spend $325,000 on a villa for themselves. However, Paris splashed out this amount of cash on a villa for her dogs. The property was purchased back in 2009. It is 300 square feet and two stories high. It probably comes as no surprise to you then that it features designer furniture too, as well as a black crystal chandelier and a balcony too.

The world of weird celebrity purchases just gets weirder and weirder, as two celebrities went into a bidding war over a Mongolian dinosaur skull. Unfortunately, Leonardo DiCaprio lost out to Nicolas Cage, who paid $276,000 for the skull. However, it turns out that the Titanic actor had the last laugh, as Cage was forced to give up the skull in 2015. It turns out that a fossil smuggler, called Eric Prokopi, had stolen the skull from Mongolia.

Other celebrities that enjoy purchasing the same thing include Katy Perry and Ashton Kutcher. The singer purchased a ticket to space for her ex-husband Russell Brand. Who knows what happened to this lavish purchase when the couple divorced. Perhaps she is hoping he would still use it? Ashton Kutcher has also paid for a ticket for himself.

Finally, we have an actress who purchased an entire township for herself. Kim Basinger bought Braselton, Georgia, back in 1989. She purchased 1,751 acres of the town, costing her a mere $20 million! She bought the town because she had plans to turn the farmland into a film studio and tourist attraction. However, things didn’t exactly go to plan, as she went bankrupt six years later, resulting in her auctioning off Braselton.

So there you have it: an insight into some of the most ridiculous purchases made by celebrities. Which purchase do you think is the most crazy?
