Winning Tips For Making Friends in a New City

It can be overwhelming to move to a new city without anyone you know. Whether it’s for education or a new job, maybe even just for a fresh start. It’s important you start networking and making friends to get yourself socializing and happy in your newfound home. Soon you’ll need this tip!

Let’s begin. Here're some winning tips that can help you along the way:

Learn to Cook

It’s no secret I love good food. Taking time out to do a cooking course is an excellent way to meet like-minded people, while also getting yourself an important life skill. Everyone there will have an interest in food so that conversation starting will be super easy. Making food is always fun, and eating it afterward is better! Suggest to the group to go for a drink later to get to know everyone outside of class time. This will give you time to talk and share interests even more.

Join a sports team

Joining a local team can help make friends, the team spirit will get you all working together towards a victory. Regular training will help you get to know your teammates. Whatever your interest, there’s usually a club for it. Whether it’s football, rugby, tennis, or the rabble! There will likely be meetups outside of training where you’ll get to socialize even more. It’s perfect for actively reaching out and meeting new people, while keeping fit and healthy. Plus, you might even win something! Imagine a football trophy from premier trophies sat on your shelf. A great reminder of your achievements, and a bit of nostalgia with your newfound friends.

Be a regular

Being in one place often is an excellent way to get to know people. Commonly this is a bar, but it could be a coffee shop or a library just as easy. The longer you frequent a place, the more familiar faces you’ll recognize, and the more likely you’ll spark some conversation. Don’t just hang around in a place just to catch friends, though, go somewhere with an atmosphere you enjoy or activity you love. The other people who frequent will already have similar interests or tastes as you, so you’re more likely to get along. If you don’t meet anyone new, it doesn’t matter because you’re in a place you enjoy anyway!

Start Talking

Seriously. Just talk to people. It doesn’t matter where it doesn’t matter when. Just start having conversations with people. Give it a go! It could be about anything you want. Whether it’s pop culture, something in the news recently, or a common interest you’ve noticed. People won’t mind if you’re confident, and you look approachable. The more conversations you have with people, the more likely you’ll find someone you click with.

Enjoy yourself

The most important tip that overrides all the others. Make sure you’re doing things you find fun and enjoyable. Concentrate on your happiness first, keep a smile on your face and be open. People will come to you!
